SS22: Key Colours.

I have identified 21 key colours from the SS22 runway shows and its really exciting! I feel that being in lockdown has shifted the fashion industry in a way where creativity became much more of a focus, rather than business, and the palette feels very different to previous Spring/Summer seasons.

Sneak Peek: 3 Key Colours for SS22.

I wanted to start with ‘Very Peri’, named after the Pantone Colour of the Year which was supported by the SS22 runway as demonstrated on my moodboard. It isn’t a colour I recall seeing much of on the high-street at all so it will be a refreshing change. I quite like the idea of seeing this in crunchy cotton poplins and/or affordable sportswear as I do find colour options in sportswear is very limited to either super brights, or pastels.

I would not usually highlight ‘black’ as a colour as its the most commercial colour for an item to be in… but coupled with the key detail of articulated cutouts, I just had to!! So, if you’re using black, the detail has got to be perfect otherwise it isn’t going to look ‘new’. There is also definitely more of a luxe feel to it so stay away from thin, plain jersey fabrics which has been done abundantly by fast-fashion brands. I am actually more interested to see how high-street brands aimed at a slightly more mature audience will translate this trend, if at all.

And thirdly, I wanted to point out ‘Peppermint Ice’. There has been a lot of this pale colouring coming through for the past couple of seasons now but I have yet to see more commercial brands take the colour on, could the time be now? My most favourite examples are to see it in Occasionwear as demonstrated by Monique Lhuillier and ruched by Sportmax which gives it more depth and not feel overly washed-out.
